Introduction to B&G
While Away…
So, the journey of a thousand miles starts with, if not a step, then a blog. This blog is intended to document the, hopefully, fun filled adventures of Greg (that’s me) and Bryony as we travel Central America. We want to document the highs and lows that will inevitably come our way and share our experiences.
Where to begin?
Well, to start, we haven’t left yet. Tickets are booked however, but not much else. I had better fill you in on who we are.
I am Greg Wilgar an Englishman, I have a Master’s degree in Biological Science from Bangor University, perhaps in the future I will blog on this further. Suffice it to say, I love science, wildlife and adventure. The last of these loves has up till now been fulfilled by several international trips during breaks from university, I will go into this later. After finishing my Master’s, I have found myself at a crossroads; get a job or do a PhD. Both are very viable and exciting prospects; however, I want to see the world through the lens of freedom. Before you jump to conclusions, I am not a hippie. I don’t subscribe to Reiki, Reflexology or any other pseudoscience. Personally, I think the world itself is cooler than anything you can make up. This blog is not intended to be about anything particularly controversial but I am sure things will pop up now and again. I am a bit of a joker so anyone without a sense of humour might get offended occasionally (shock horror). I am here to have fun and maybe inspire others to do so as well. On the other hand, I would value constructive feedback and positive vibes.
The next few blogs I am intending to write will focus around our preparation. I am not sure how regularly posts shall be, I mostly wanted to get the ball rolling and get writing.
Over to Bryony…..
Hi, I am Bryony. Also English. I am the main reason that Greg is going travelling; without me he would probably be settling into a PhD or a job right now. Over the last few years I have brought Greg round from wanting to book everything in advance and avoid "dangerous" hostels and modes of transport to being enthusiastic for booking the first hostel only, spontaneity and being totally up for hitchhiking.
I have always wanted to travel- my parents have traveled the world and still go to India every year and my sister has visited Cambodia and South Africa. Although I have gone abroad during holidays from University, I have followed the traditional pathway of a student who doesn't want to get a job yet: from School to Undergraduate degree to Masters degree, without a year in-between. Having nearly finished my Masters degree, now is probably the last chance I have to leave for a few months or maybe more, before I need to get a job, PhD or be a real adult and settle down.
As the more reasonable, rational and sensible of us two, I will probably be the brains behind the packing, logistics and general deciding where to go. I am also going to write alongside Greg and hopefully we might also do some filming.
Please, like, share and follow et al. for more about this adventure and whatever else.
Yours in Adventure,
Greg & Bryony
